Current Read: The 2-Week Vacation Test - By Austin Netzley
I had the chance to meet Austin this past week, and let me tell you—his passion for helping business owners build wildly successful companies that can run without them is contagious. He’s written multiple books (link below), and I started diving into The 2-Week Vacation Test. There’s some really valuable stuff in there.
One of the big ideas that jumped out at me was "Can your business run smoothly without you for two weeks?". It’s a challenge for any business owner, but it’s also something every business owner should aim for. If not, there’s work to be done.
A couple of my initial ‘Aha!’ moments from the book:
Organizing all the tasks you do into four tiers, based on complexity. The goal is simple: Start delegating the easiest, least complex tasks first, and work your way up from there.
Tier 1: Admin - Email Inbox, social media, simple tech, customer service (offloading to an admin-level position)
Tier 2: Technician - Doing 'the work' of your business, project management, client delivery, optimizing web pages, content creation, prospecting
Tier 3: Manager - Team management, employee optimization, running meetings, legal, creating systems
Tier 4: Executive - Strategy, leading big marketing initiatives, hiring, partnerships, creating key assets (high-impact "on" business activities)
Asking yourself three key questions as a CEO to make sure you’re using your time as effectively as possible. These questions are a game-changer when it comes to staying focused on what truly moves the needle.
What is on your list that you can stop doing immediately?
What is just not essential to helping you achieve your goals?
What things, if you can cut them, would not make that big of a difference to your business and growth (besides freeing up time and energy to focus on higher-impact and better activities)?
I’m excited to dive deeper into these concepts and see how I can implement them in my own business. If you're a business owner looking to work smarter, not harder, I highly recommend checking out Austin’s work. You might just find the tools you need to level up your business!
