What I'm learning about AI Prompting Is Out—Framing Is In!
Want better results? It’s not just about writing a singular prompt; it’s about setting the right frame for AI to be your thought partner. Think of it like a recipe for success: the quality of your outcomes depends on the quality of your ingredients.
Here’s a framework that I got from a recent presentation from Geoff Woods that I'm currently using:
Describe the Task – Be as clear, simple, and specific as you can.
Give Context – Share the bigger picture. What assumptions about the project are you making that if you just moved them into the conversation it would improve it? For example: write this listing description following all rules from the NAR Code of Ethics and Fair Housing laws for my state.
Assign a Persona – who do you want your AI to be for this conversation? An expert in...., a particular thought leader, etc.
Establish Limits – Set boundaries to focus the results - perhaps word count of a blog.
Specify Requirements – Are there any unspoken criteria in terms of what successful output would look like.
Explain the Why – I think of this a bit like context above. Take a moment to articulate about why this output from AI matters and you'll likely get a better result!
Ask it to Interview You – This is a golden catch all. And it covers over a multitude of errors in the rest of it. "Ask me questions, one at a time, to help me provide you clarity on this project."
