James Shaw on Goal Setting

December 13, 20241 min read

This week, I had the chance to spend two days learning from James Shaw, and let me tell you—his insights on leadership and success were fantastic. One of his closing thoughts really stuck with me.

Here’s my notes from his 4-Step Process for Setting and Achieving Goals:

  1. Start by setting a clear, meaningful goal.

  2. Break it down into actionable steps.

  3. Then—here’s the kicker—forget about the goal. Stop obsessing over it. Focus only on those steps you just mapped out.

  4. Anytime you catch yourself fixating on the goal, pause and ask: “What’s the one thing I should be doing right now to move forward?”

It’s refreshingly simple, isn’t it? No over-complication, just forward momentum. And sometimes, that’s exactly what we need to keep moving toward our dreams.

So, here’s the real question: Which of your goals could use this 4-step strategy?
