Reading books outside of YOUR Industry is critical, and here's why:

I'm currently reading "Sticky Church". This is a book written for pastors and churches and focuses on the power of small groups in a church to create community-building. So far, it’s an enjoyable read!  But what I want to highlight real quick is WHY am I reading THIS book?

Explore the concept of info sponging by reading books outside your industry. Learn how cross-pollinating ideas can lead to breakthroughs in your own field.

It’s a concept called info sponging. Info sponging is where we cross-pollinate from different industries. I highly recommend it. Fun fact:  The founder of Priceline shared a story of thinking about his industry (the airline industry) and then going to the grocery store and having a conversation with a clerk about how the produce section rots if not sold in a timely manner and how markdowns are needed. That conversation is what caused him to think about “rotting seats” and the opportunity to sell discounted tickets at the last minute.  Some of the greatest breakthroughs come from learning from a seemingly unrelated industry and bringing insight back to your industry.
