Taking 100% Responsibility: A Team Conflict Resolution Exercise
One of the hardest shifts in leadership
When conflict shows up, it’s easy to focus on what others did wrong.
But some of my biggest growth moments have come from asking, “How am I contributing to this?”
There’s a simple exercise from The 15 Commitments of Conscious Leadership that helps move from blame to ownership. Here’s the gist:
Start with blame
Say the complaint out loud. Be honest. Even dramatic.
Shift your posture
Physically move. Let it mark a shift to full responsibility.
Reflect
This reminds me of...
I keep this going by...
What I get from this is...
The pattern I’m noticing is...
I can take responsibility by...
If nothing shifts, start again.
It’s uncomfortable. And that’s the point. Because once you move past blame, you get access to clarity, insight, and real growth, not just for you, but for your entire team.
