Exactly What to Say by Phil Jones

We had the chance to hear Phil live this past week, and I wish I had been able to meet up with him to get an autograph inside of my dog-eared copy of his book Exactly What to Say. This book is GOLD for each of us that communicate for a living. It draws on rich neurolinguistic programming truths and shows the important reality that the right words, at the right time, make a big difference!

Here are a few golden excerpts:

When introducing a new idea, start with, "How open-minded are you?"
This will naturally attract people toward the very thing that you'd like them to support. Everybody wants to be open-minded. The real magic, though, is delivered through the final three-letter word of this sequence, a word that typically should be avoided in all conversations: the word "but."

When you say to somebody, "I'm not sure if it's for you, but..."
The little voice inside your listener's head hears, "You might want to look at this."

Phil Jones emphasizes the power of carefully chosen words and how they can significantly impact the effectiveness of our communication. If you haven't read Exactly What to Say, I highly recommend picking up a copy and exploring the insights it offers.
