I’m currently diving into Gino Wickman’s book, How to Be a Great Boss—and it’s packed with insights that could change the way you approach leadership.
You might know Gino from his books Traction and Rocket Fuel (both game-changers for any entrepreneur), and this one is no different. One idea that really stood out to me is Gino’s concept of “capacity”—the four key areas every leader (and their team) must develop to succeed.
Here’s a quick rundown of those four capacities:
Emotional Capacity
The heart to understand and empathize with what others are feeling. It’s about building trust and connecting with your team on a human level.
Intellectual Capacity
The brainpower to think critically, solve complex problems, and make decisions that move the company forward.
Physical Capacity
The stamina and energy to keep going—whether it’s leading by example or rolling up your sleeves when the going gets tough.
Time Capacity
The ability to manage time effectively—prioritizing what truly matters and not getting lost in the weeds.
This framework is a great way to evaluate yourself as a leader. So, ask yourself: How am I doing in these areas? And, how are my team members doing? If we’re being honest with ourselves, there’s always room to grow.
As we head into the next year, a great goal for all leaders is to focus on increasing these capacities—both in ourselves and in those around us. The better we get in these areas, the stronger our teams and organizations will become.
Wishing you growth, impact, and success as we head into the new year!
